CE – Constellation Energy - The nation’s leading supplier of competitive electricity to large commercial and industrial customers. CE is the parent company of Constellation Energy Projects & Services Group.
CEPS - Constellation Energy Projects & Services Group (formerly Constellation Energy Source) - the company selected to design, build, operate, and maintain the new district energy system to serve downtown Nashville.
CNDE – Constellation Nashville District Energy, LLC – the entity that operates the Metro Nashville District Energy system.
DES - District Energy System - provides heating and cooling from a central plant to multiple users.
DHC - District Heating and Cooling
EDS - Energy Distribution System - the network of supply and return pipes used to circulate the hot and chilled water to customers and the metering systems used to monitor their usage of the system.
EGF - Energy Generation Facility - the central plant where fuel is burned to create steam for heat and air conditioning production for a district energy system.
HVAC - is an initialism or acronym that stands for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning. HVAC is sometimes referred to as climate control and is particularly important in the design of medium to large industrial and office buildings.
IDEA - International District Energy Association IDEA represents nearly 700 members who are district heating and cooling executives, managers, engineers, consultants and equipment suppliers from 12 countries. Association members operate district energy systems owned by utilities, municipalities, hospitals, military bases and airports in 38 of the 50 United States.
MDHA - Metro Development and Housing Agency - the agency from which Metro acquired the land on which to construct the new energy generation facility.
Metro - Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County - the local governing body.
Metro Liaison - The Metro Finance Director has appointed an individual to act on behalf of Metro and be the interface between the PA and Metro. That roll is currently filled by Michael Bradley.
MNDES - Metropolitan Nashville District Energy System - the system that provides heating and cooling from a central plant to multiple buildings in downtown Nashville.
NCC - Nashville Convention Center.
NTTC - Nashville Thermal Transfer Corporation - a not-for-profit organization established in 1970 to build, own, and operate the original Nashville district energy system.
Project Administrator - The operations of the DES fall under the purview of the Metro Finance Director. The Metro Finance Director, in accordance with ARMA has appointed a Contract Administrator, known familiarly as the Project Administrator, or PA. The PA is the point of management contact for the entire project. That roll is currently filled by Harry J. Ragsdale of Thermal Engineering Group, Inc.
SSR - Smith Beckman Reid is a firm of more than 500 professionals delivering engineering design and facility consulting services to clients throughout the United States.
TVA - Tennessee Valley Authority is a federal corporation and the nation’s largest public power provider. TVA sells power to 158 local distributors that serve 8.8 million people and 650,000 businesses and industries in the seven-state TVA service area. It covers almost all of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Virginia. TVA also sells power to about 59 large industrial customers and federal installations. Through its river system operations, TVA reduces flooding, provides for river transportation and power production, maintains water quality, and supports recreation. TVA also helps companies and communities attract investments that bring jobs to the region.
