Economic Analyst (Planner II)
The Metropolitan Planning Department of Nashville/Davidson County seeks an economic analyst as part of our long-range Community Planning team. The person who fills this position will research and analyze public planning policy and public investment options to identify policy and capital spending choices that further sustainable community and economic development, for today and the future. A sustainable community is one which balances
- land use, transportation, and public infrastructure decisions
- economic development
- policies that protect and restore natural areas, reduce carbon emissions, bolster economic welfare, and enhance social equity.
The individual filling this position will:
- Perform comparative analyses of real estate value under different development scenarios, ranging from rural/agricultural to suburban to urban infill and greenfield forms.
- Perform comparative analyses of the impact of specific public investments on sustainable growth in the community and the economy.
- Collect and evaluate proposed capital projects to identify those most likely to lead sustainable development.
- Analyze the impact of policy and regulatory changes on property value and tax base growth.
- Perform comparative analyses of energy consumption under different land use policy scenarios, translated into economic terms.
- Review and evaluate privately developed economic analyses, including cost of services analysis, fiscal impact analyses, and economic impact analyses.
The evaluations above will require creativity in researching and developing new analytical tools and protocols. Software tools available: Microsoft Office products, advanced geographic information systems, and Community Viz®
Nashville/ Davidson County is an urban county in Middle Tennessee, with population of 606,000 and a consolidated government.
Qualifications: Masters Degree in Economics, Real Estate, Public Administration, or related specializations. Three to five years of experience. Interest in sustainable economy and sustainable development.
Starting Salary: $49,916 (depending on qualifications) with excellent health, dental and retirement benefits.
