Mission & Goals

At his inauguration in September 2007, Mayor Dean expressed that he is committed to his three priorities for Nashville: improve public education, create safer neighborhoods, and encourage economic and community development.

With these priorities in mind, the mission of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods (MOON) is to improve the quality of life in Nashville's neighborhoods through community outreach, partnership, and initiative and to serve as a vital link between government response and community needs.

The goals of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods are:

  • to coordinate initiatives that will address Mayor Dean’s priorities for our city, in partnership with Nashville’s neighborhood and community groups
  • to reach out to and build relationships with community groups and leaders to increase community involvement and civic engagement in efforts to address Mayor Dean’s priorities
  • to assist constituents with concerns and questions about Metro government, departments, and agencies in a helpful and timely manner
