Community Matters

Community Matters is the Mayor’s initiative to help keep our communities and neighborhoods beautiful and address some of the most common neighborhood problems. In partnership with Metro Codes, Metro Health, Metro Beautification and the Davidson Co. Sheriff’s Office, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods addresses a specific community’s needs and focuses department resources in an effort to improve neighborhoods.

During Community Matters, a community and its citizens can expect a number of events, including:

  • Mayor’s Night Out is a program designed to give constituents direct access to the Mayor and provides a forum for discussing community concerns.
  • Community Clean-up — During Community Matters, with the help of Metro Beautification and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, set aside for neighborhoods and volunteers to organize clean-ups with their neighbors.
  • Operation: Codes Sweep—with the help of Metro Codes and Health Departments, codes violation “hot spots” are identified and inspectors will serve abatements for violations in these areas.
  • N.O.T.I.C.E. Training — Metro Codes Department will offer N.O.T.I.C.E. (Neighborhoods Organized to Initiate Codes Enforcement) training for any neighborhoods groups interested in helping identify and report codes violations in their neighborhoods. The NOTICE program empowers citizens and allows them to work together with the Codes Enforcement staff. To learn more about how you can organize a neighborhood team, visit the NOTICE program page.
