Emergency Management Council

The Emergency Management Council is a broad group of Metro, business and industry, civic and volunteer representatives who advise and assist OEM in administering its duties; including the development of an emergency management plan. The Council is authorized and guided in accordance with Metro Code 2.10.050 in an effort to promote communitywide involvement in emergency management practices.

The representatives, called emergency services coordinators, are appointed by their organization and approved by the OEM director. They are empowered to represent their respective organization in the development of plans, policies and procedures relative to emergency management. They also represent their organizations during times of major emergencies and disasters. When activated, they report to the EOC or the Mobile EOC to coordinate their organizations response and recovery activities, and participate in the following efforts:

  • Development of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
  • Development of site specific plans including:
    • Sommet Center
    • LP Field
    • Historic Courthouse, Ben West Building and Justice A.A. Birch Building
  • Urban Search And Rescue (TN Taskforce 2)
  • Domestic Preparedness Program
  • Annual disaster drills and exercises
