With origins in the charity movement of the 1800s, Metro Social Services (MSS) has a rich history of assisting our community’s neediest citizens in Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County. MSS activities promote positive change for individuals and families in times of crisis and economic hardship.
Today MSS, with its staff of 100 women and men, is committed to helping Nashville solve the problems associated with poverty and homeless. MSS serves three roles: service delivery, planning, and coordination. Direct services are provided to the elderly, disabled, extended family and homeless populations through our Adult and Family Support Services Program. The Planning and Coordination unit identifies community needs and creates ways to meet those needs.
The activities of MSS are guided by a seven member Social Services Board of Commissioners. This independent commission is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Nashville City Council. Board members are appointed to 5 year terms.
