Metro Water Services Stormwater Program

The Metropolitan Nashville - Davidson County Stormwater Management Committee (SWMC) has adopted a new monthly meeting schedule. The Committee shall meet on the first Thursday of each month beginning October 2008. Please view the revised meeting schedule on the 2008 Meeting Schedule page.

On December 1, 2007, the Stormwater Division implemented fees for reviewing plans and for issuing any applicable Grading Permits.  A Project Fee Computation Worksheet determines applicable fees, and a completed worksheet is required with any new submittal to the Plans Review office. Payment should not be included with initial submittals. Calculated fees will be reviewed and verified prior to technical review.  Any payments for Grading Permit fees will be required before a Preconstruction meeting can be scheduled.  Checks should be made payable to Metro Water

In addition, the filing fee for variance requests and appeal applications before the Stormwater Management Committee (SWMC) will be reduced from $560.00 to $335.00.

*** Please also note that there is now an additional requirement on the Stormwater Management Committee Variance Checklist for variance requests for Minimum First Floor Elevation (MFFE). The Applicant shall evaluate the need for any uncompensated fill in the floodplain. Please review the information on the Latest Public Notices page.

The affects of development and urbanization on stormwater cannot be overlooked. Over the past few years, Nashville has taken a proactive approach in putting together a stormwater management program that is gaining control of its stormwater in both quantity and quality. A maintenance crew of over 50 people works diligently to keep stormwater drainage infrastructure open and clear. The NPDES division endeavors to maintain the water quality in streams, and an engineering staff ensures that all stormwater on new development is accounted for. The MWS Stormwater team is striving for the day when the next large rainstorm simply goes unnoticed.
